Project Management Definition
The core competency I chose to focus on for project management is the use of critical thinking. When tackling a project, there are a lot of unknown situations and curve balls that will be thrown your way. It is important to be able to think outside of the box to come up with solutions to the problem fairly fast. In addition to that, a project manager can use their critical thinking skills to help prepare for situations that may occur in the future. By taking the time to fully understand all of the risks, they will be able to be more successful critical thinking.
Project Management in Leadership
While critical thinking can help a project manager get through difficult situations, it can also help them as a leader. One of the most important steps to being a great leader is taking the time to get to know your employees and understand who they are. This, along with critical thinking will aid in your effectiveness as a leader. Utilizing your understanding of someone can help you determine where and with whom they may do their best work.
Project Management Artifact
The artifact I chose for this is a project I did for one of my OGL courses which had us plan a big event. This assignment had us break down everything that needed to be done and set deadlines. In addition to that, I set up a WBS which clearly outlines the cost of how much everything is going to cost and the date which it needs to be completed by. This class taught me how to clearly plan for everything when it comes to tackling a project. Projects always have many different aspects and things to consider like budget, delegation, deadlines, etc. I feel confident in taking on more projects in the future.
