Empowerment Definition
Empowerment is a skill many leaders possess. This means the leader can make employees realize their self-worth and capabilities. It is often that employees don’t realize their full potential and capability in a task and all they need is some encouragement to realize they are able to achieve more than they ever thought they could. This helps employees stay motivated and satisfied with the work they are doing.
Empowerment in Leadership
I had the pleasure of both being empowered and empowering a peer and the difference it made in overall performance was astonishing. Every employee is different and motivated in different ways, so taking the time to get to know the people you work with is extremely important. Personally, this is how I was able to empower others. I took the time to get to know them and looked for positives about who they are and how they work. Then, I let them know how they could harness the great strengths they have to achieve their personal best.
Empowerment Artifact
The assignment I am using for this concept goes into a lot of detail about how I realized the importance of empowerment and the effect it can have on performance. Starting off, I investigate how being empowered motivated me and had a permanent effect on how I saw myself and the work I could do. It was then that I began to do my own research and figure out that everyone is motivated in a different way and what I could do to figure out what that was. The next step was for me to apply it in my own work environment and see another peer grow.
